Our Process & Framework:

Step 1: Dream it.

Everything starts with an idea, or maybe you are looking to us to help dream one up with you.

We meet via a online consultation & talk about your goals, hopes and dreams for your project. If it seems like a good fit for everyone, we then send you a proposal outlining our scope, services, fee and projected timeline that solidifies our relationship into the next phases of your project. The fun begins!

Step 2: Explore it.

Consider this the research (R&D) phase of the project.

Studio foliosa will get completely lost in the sauce, delving into the most appropriate design approaches for your project and starting to think on the most perfect plant palette. We will be evaluating things like the region/context, climate, human relationship to the land, and of course continuously obsessing over environmental impact. As you might expect this phase varies greatly for each project, especially practicing in different regions across the US and beyond, but we pride ourselves in our love for the landscape so take this step quite seriously.

Step 3: Design it & Combine it.

We bring all of the ideas to life during this ‘drawing phase’.

Through various visualization tools, as well as modern drawing standards we combine all of the dreams, research and design ideas to formulate the final plans for your project. As Design is an iterative process we revise ideas to perfect them, and make sure your goals kept in sight throughout the project. At the end of this phase we will have a packet of drawings and reference material to move on to the final chapter of the project.

Step 4: Plant it & Nurture it.

Get connected with a professional installer or roll up your own sleeves, it’s time to put those plans & plants in the ground during the ‘construction & installation’ phase.

Although studio foliosa operates largely on a remote basis during the design and drawing phases, we strongly believe in visiting the site before putting pen to paper, and during construction to ensure a seamless and superior final product, especially when it comes to laying out the planting design. However, in today’s age many things can be done remotely, from meetings, to design review, costing & budgeting, contractor coordination, quality assurance and more. Finally to ensure a successful lifespan of your project, we can also consult on creating a maintenance plan for your project.
